Squishies Led for a Third Straight Week: Week 34 Toy Sourcing Signals

Week 34 toy sourcing signals: squishies on top for a third week across Amazon, Temu and TikTok Shop samples, water play's season closed, learning toys on two channels.

Reviewed August 19, 2026

Every week, Product Map China tracks the same toy-market signals for buyers who source from China: 40 Amazon US Best Sellers and New Releases positions, estimated Top 20s for Temu US and TikTok Shop US, supply-side activity on the China cross-border channel, and US search interest. This is the third issue — the Week 33 report is here.

Squishy toys have now led our retail samples three weeks running. This week they held 11 of the 40 Amazon positions, 12 of the estimated Temu Top 20, and the No. 2 spot on Amazon's Toys & Games Best Sellers — the monitor's strongest reading on both channels. The other directions moved apart: water play narrowed, learning toys entered two channels at once, and remote control stayed a supply-and-search story with no retail products behind it. Each calls for a different buyer action.

Week 34 in Brief

  • Squishies led for a third straight week. Amazon rose from 8 to 11 squishy positions over three weeks, Temu's estimated Top 20 from 5 to 12; TikTok Shop held at 1.
  • Water play narrowed. One water product in Temu's estimated Top 20, down from three in Week 32; the survivor, a refillable water gun, sat at No. 2. China-side and US searches continued.
  • Learning toys widened on two channels. Amazon's new releases added a letter-tracing marble set; TikTok Shop added a Montessori counting-sticks set and a magnetic alphabet-and-number set. Learning products now fill about a third of TikTok Shop's estimated Top 20.
  • Remote control stayed a supply-and-search signal. Active on the China supply side and in US searches, but the week's only matching product was one remote-control boat.

Squishies: Three Weeks at the Top

The No. 2 best seller in Amazon's Toys & Games ranking was Schylling's NeeDoh Dream Drop, and four of the category's top 11 were squeeze toys. On Temu, the estimated No. 3 and No. 4 were both squishies: a soft-bun set and a glitter ice-cube set. TikTok Shop carried exactly one, for the third week running. The weight sits on Amazon and Temu, not everywhere.

The shapes rotate — butter, cheese, a scented mango, keyboard fidgets among this week's Amazon newcomers — but the mechanism never changes: squeeze, deform, watch it slowly return. With dozens of near-identical listings crowding the same rankings, the listing differentiates nothing. What separates versions is physical: material feel, rebound consistency, odor, seam durability, packaging, safety documentation.

For buyers, discovery is over. The questions are which samples feel and recover better, survive handling, arrive with the right packaging and paperwork, and give a retailer a reason to stock them over the near-identical competition. US search interest for squishies has held up all summer.

Water Play Narrows as Summer Winds Down

Temu's estimated Top 20 carried three water products in Week 32 and one this week, a refillable prank water gun at No. 2. Amazon's new releases added a reusable water-balloon set. On the China supply side, an electric rapid-fire water gun kept appearing in product activity and search terms, and US searches held through the summer.

That reads late-season rather than declining. For sourcing, late-season means closed: production and shipping cannot reach shelves before summer ends, so there is no current order to consider. The useful takeaway is next year's calendar, including which formats were still iterating as the season wound down. This year, that was the reusable-balloon format.

Learning Toys: New on Two Channels at Once

TikTok Shop's estimated Top 20 now carries six learning products plus a counting-and-sorting set, about a third of the list. New this week: a wooden Montessori counting-sticks set and a magnetic alphabet-and-number set. Amazon's new releases added hand2mind's MarbleTracers, a letter-tracing activity. Different products, one family, two channels in the same week; Temu showed no matching entry.

"Learning toys" is not one category, and treating it as one wastes the signal. A tracing activity, a counting set, a language tablet and an alphabet magnet set serve different ages, skills and selling contexts. Split the formats first (age grading, small-parts risk, language dependency, piece count, demo value in a short video), then compare suppliers within one format.

Remote-Control Cars: Searches Without Products

The term stayed active in the China-side sourcing searches we track, and US searches for rc car continued. The supply side even turned up one matching product, a mini remote-control boat. A boat, though; no Amazon, Temu or TikTok Shop sample showed a concentrated group of RC cars. For buyers this is the classic timing trade-off: retail confirmation arrives too late to act on, so anyone interested has to make the market call on the upstream signal alone. Whether to move early is the buyer's judgment, not this report's.

Magnetic Toys Thinned Out; Pretend Play Held On

Not every direction grew. Magnetic toys, Week 33's second-strongest family, thinned to three observations — one Temu listing and two supply-side sets — and the term dropped off the China-side sourcing searches it had filled a week earlier. US searches stayed visible, so this reads as a faded signal rather than a dead one; one quiet week is not a verdict. Pretend-play sets, meanwhile, stretched their supply-side run to three weeks, still without retail confirmation.

How Buyers Can Use This Week's Signals

  • Squishies: move from discovery to sample comparison and differentiation.
  • Water play: the window for this season has closed; the takeaway is next year's calendar, not a current order.
  • Learning toys: segment the formats, then compare suppliers within one format.
  • Remote-control cars: retail confirmation will arrive too late to act on; any early move is the buyer's own market judgment.

Three weeks in, one pattern stands out: families rise channel by channel, rarely everywhere at once. Squishies built on Amazon and Temu while TikTok Shop sat out; learning toys are building on TikTok Shop and Amazon while Temu sits out. The channel is part of the signal — it sets the price band, the presentation and the retail context a product has to win.

Methodology Note

This Week 34 snapshot is built from 144 observations: 80 retail listings (Amazon US Best Sellers and New Releases, 40 positions; estimated monthly-sales Top 20s for Temu US and TikTok Shop US), 27 verified China-side supply matches, 7 supply-chain product directions, 30 search-term records, plus US search-interest context. Marketplace Top 20s are third-party estimates, not platform figures. Sources measure different things, so counts sit side by side and are never merged — and ranking visibility is not sales.
