Week 37: Holiday Stocking Season Opens Early
Week 37 toy sourcing data: Halloween and Christmas squishy SKUs reach US rankings while China-side supply offers already carry holiday goods.
Every week, Product Map China tracks the same toy-market signals for buyers who source from China: 40 Amazon US Best Sellers and New Releases positions, estimated Top 20s for Temu US and TikTok Shop US, supply-side activity on the China cross-border channel, and US search interest.
This is the sixth issue in the series. The Week 36 report is here.
No new toy category broke out in the first week of September. What changed is the calendar. Halloween, Christmas and even Hanukkah products moved into the US rankings at the same moment China-side supply offers started carrying holiday goods — and Magic Jellykins, the water-reveal line we flagged last week, held its position on two platforms for a second week running.
If you source toys, this was a week about timing, not discovery.
Week 37 in Brief
- Holiday SKUs are on US rankings while there is still time to act. A Halloween dumpling squishy set and a 24-day Christmas squishy advent calendar both sat inside the TikTok Shop Top 20 this week, and LEGO put two Halloween building sets into Amazon New Releases.
- Magic Jellykins is now a two-week pattern across two platforms. Four straight weeks in Amazon New Releases, two in the TikTok Shop Top 20 — the longest cross-platform run we have recorded for a line this young.
- The squishy base is easing, not collapsing. Squishy-type products filled 20 of the 80 US retail positions we track, down from 24 a month ago. The category is consolidating around reasons to buy — a season, a character, a reveal — rather than shrinking away.
Holiday Stocking Started This Week — On Both Sides of the Pacific
The clearest change in Week 37 is seasonal. Q4 holiday goods showed up in the US rankings and in China-side supply offers in the same week, which is what a stocking season opening looks like from both ends.
On the consumer side, the TikTok Shop Top 20 included a Halloween dumpling squishy set — grimace pumpkins and little devils packed in steamer boxes, selling at an estimated 35,000 a month — and a Christmas advent calendar that hides 24 collectible squishy dumplings behind a countdown box. Amazon New Releases took on two LEGO Halloween items in the same week: a jack-o'-lantern pickup truck at No. 4 and a 617-piece wreath at No. 17.

The China supply side is already there too. We count a supply offer as verified only when its overseas listing title, its genuine Chinese offer title and its product images all line up — and inside this week's verified set sit holiday goods like a hand-painted wooden Hanukkah dreidel set and a horror-movie character building kit sold as Halloween decor.

The advent calendar deserves a closer look from buyers, because the format itself does merchandising work: 24 doors means 24 small unboxing moments for short video, a built-in daily-use reason through December, and a price point that reads as a gift rather than a toy. That is why the format reappears every year across whatever category is hot — last year's chocolate calendars, this year's squishy dumplings.
For most buyers this shift is a timing question rather than a discovery question. Ocean freight from China to US shelves typically needs 4–6 weeks, plus production time. Halloween stock not already on the water is now an air-freight decision. For Christmas and calendar formats, late September is roughly the last comfortable ocean-freight order point. Whether to pay for speed or sit this round out is your call — the data only says the window is open on both ends.
Holiday SKUs also carry their own compliance surface: paints and coatings on painted wooden items, small parts on advent calendars aimed at young children, flammability rules for decorative packaging. Standard checks, but far easier to schedule now than in the pre-holiday rush.
Magic Jellykins: A Second Week On Two Platforms
The water-activated reveal line held its cross-platform position for a second consecutive week.
| Week | Amazon New Releases | TikTok Shop Top 20 |
|---|---|---|
| Week 34 | No. 7 | — |
| Week 35 | No. 6 | — |
| Week 36 | No. 2 | No. 12 |
| Week 37 | No. 8 | No. 14 |
One week of overlap can be coincidence. Two consecutive weeks starts to look like distribution. The Amazon entry is the two-pack of jars — add water, a jelly-like character appears, then it becomes a squeezable collectible. The TikTok Shop entry is the same brand's surprise-reveal set at an estimated 9,600 a month. The two records are not confirmed as the same SKU; what travels is the proposition: a transformation a child can film, a tactile toy left over afterwards, and a collectible ladder to climb.

The useful signal here is not Magic Jellykins itself. It is that reveal-plus-squeeze formats now have two platforms and two weeks of demonstrated shelf life in the US sample. If you have a candidate in this family, this is the week to request finished samples and test what the demo video will show: activation time, repeat activation, drying, leakage, and whether the second character is different enough that a child would want it.
The Squishy Base: Easing, Not Ending
The category underneath both stories above is slowly consolidating. Squishy-type products filled 20 of the 80 US retail positions we track this week — 40 Amazon positions plus the Temu and TikTok Shop Top 20s — down from 24 a month ago. US searches for "squishies" stayed visible through the past three months.
Read that as a stable base losing its undifferentiated slots, not a category in decline. What earns a position now is a reason: a season, a character, or a reveal. A plain squishy competes on feel, recovery, finish and unit price — everything beyond that needs one of those reasons attached.
What Stayed in the Background
- KPop Demon Hunters dolls held two more spots in Amazon New Releases, the property's fourth straight week in that list.
- Most of this week's rising US toy searches were versions of one story: Toys "R" Us possibly coming back. A retail event rather than a product signal — but if it turns real, it matters to anyone placing brands in physical stores.
- Searches for Micro Machines, Matchbox and Tonka all climbed. Nostalgia is stirring; nothing matching it showed up in this week's rankings samples.
- China-side new-product activity also showed licensed kids' earphone, fan and watch sets — aimed at China's own back-to-school market, so noted here and given no further weight.
- Water toys were absent from the samples for a second week; the teacher-driven art-supply bump also cooled after the back-to-school peak. Summer is over.
How Buyers Can Use This Week's Signals
If holiday SKUs fit your assortment, treat this week as the timing trigger: run the freight math before committing, and put paints, small parts and calendar-format safety checks into the sample round now rather than in October. If reveal-and-squeeze formats fit, Magic Jellykins gives you a benchmark — order finished samples, shoot the demo video, and see whether your candidate holds attention after the first reveal. If neither fits your line, there is little in this week's data that demands action: the strongest signals are seasonal, and they reward moving on timing rather than chasing novelty.
Methodology Note
This Week 37 snapshot is built from 161 observations: 80 retail listings (Amazon US Best Sellers and New Releases, 40 positions; estimated monthly-sales Top 20s for Temu US and TikTok Shop US), 36 verified China-side supply matches, 15 China-side supply-chain product directions and 30 search-term records, plus US search-interest data for context. Marketplace Top 20s are third-party estimates, not platform figures. Each source measures something different, so counts are compared side by side and never merged into one score — and visibility in a ranking is not sales.
